2A - Bug List

1.     Bug: Having to spend at least $1000 a year on textbooks.
Why it exists: Publishers are releasing new versions around every 2 years. Therefore, there aren’t many used ones to buy since we are having to buy the new editions. Some professors require the textbooks because of the assignments in the book. Even though you may never read any of the content in the book, you still need it for the assignments.

8.     People that park in Handicapped spots and don’t have a pass.
Why it exists: There isn’t enough parking in some locations so when people see an open handicapped space, they take it even if they aren’t disabled. Also, handicapped spaces are closer to the store.

9.     Not returning a shopping cart.
Why it exists: In some parking lots there aren’t cart returns out in the parking lot, so people just leave them out in the middle of a parking space. Also. They might not feel like taking it all the way back to the store if they parked far away.

10.  People parking over the line.
Why it exists: If one person parks over the line, that may cause the person next to them to park over the line. Another reason is because some parking spaces are very small.

Why it exists: Some people think the more fragrance they wear, the more attractive they are. Some people also don’t have a good sense of smell, so they are putting on more than they think they are.

Reflection:
I found this assignment pretty challenging. For me, finding things that bug me was not the difficult part. The difficult part was the WHY. The problem solver in me started getting going so I was getting distracted thinking of solutions. This assignment makes a lot of sense for an entrepreneurship class because if we can identify what bug us and also WHY it happens, an idea may come to us on how solve that problem. If it bugs us, most likely it is bugging someone else too. If we found a solution to that bug, we could have an idea for a successful company. If we were to look at those bugs with a solution-oriented mindset and not in a negative way, we may be happier in life and also come up with a solution to solve that problem. I think from now on, I will be looking at why 'bugs' happen and try to think of any possible solutions.

  1. I have to say that I agree with what you said about the assignment being pretty challenging. When I read what we had to do I thought I would get it done in 10 minutes no problem. After writing down a few of the bugs I did then hit a wall and found it really difficult to pinpoint specific things that bugged me. As I explained in the reflection portion of my own post, I think of myself as a pretty easy going guy so I don't take much time to focus on things that bug me. I think your analysis of why this assignment is good for entrepreneurs is spot-on. It forces us to look at everything as a problem with a possible solution that we can provide.

  2. I agree with you when you say that this assignment was challenging. However, it was the opposite for me. Finding the bugs was the challenging part because I tend to skip over things that bother me and wouldn't be beneficial for me to pay attention to them. Once I had the bugs, getting the WHY was easy for me, because I tend to think about this automatically. I do believe that changing our mindset on the things that bother us could help make our lives better in the long run as well as help make our society better, by providing solutions to problems probably most of the population deals with.

  3. I agree with the fact that the difficult part wasn't the bugs, but the "why it exsist". It is a good excercise when you think about it. As it gathers what really can be solved. Though I have to ponit out the textbook bug is what I really could relate to.
