In this assignment I will describe my prototypical customer
with as much detail that I can.
The prototypical customer is a white gentleman in his 70’s.
He keeps a gun in his car to protect his wife, and grandchildren when they are
with him (another reason why he should keep his firearm secure). My customer
likes to do things outdoors. He likes to hike, fish, and hunt. He drives a blue
pickup truck. He likes to watch action T.V. shows. His favorite book of all
time is “Fishing for Dummies.” His favorite politician of all time is Ronald
Reagan and he stands up for those old school conservative values. He knows that
he is getting up there in age but still has some quality life to live.
I think that I have some of the same hobbies (except
hunting) as my prototypical customer. I am definitely not in their age group,
but I feel that I think the same way that they do. I do not think that it is a
coincidence that I have some of the same hobbies as my prototypical customer.
It has been my experience with people that I know, that people who own guns
usually enjoy doing stuff outdoors.
This is a picture of my prototypical customer.

Riley, I really liked how detailed you got with your avatar. I think you touched on something very important when you mentioned that you are similar to your customer avatar, but are not in the same age group. As you described in your description many gun owners are older men, but is there a way that your product could also appeal to a younger demographic? I know gun ownership is growing amongst younger people and women so you might also want to target them.
ReplyDeleteFor your target avatar I think you were thinking on what I was thinking who would actually benefit more from your product. It is that older generation that believe that a shotgun could solve any situation. Though, so you won't hinder your product nor dismiss your targeted audience. A good take or spin would be to target people who believe anything could be solve with a shotgun or a rifle. That way you limit yourself to just, an older white male, it can stretch across age groups.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how I imagined your customer-base! I also like how detailed you got. I work with the marketing team at my company frequently so I get the chance to see how they create these hypothetical customers and yours reminded me a lot in the level of detail. How do you see your product/company adapting as you lose your core base of customers and the next generation enters your target-age?
ReplyDeleteGreat job on being incredibly specific about your prototypical customer. You have a really clear idea about who it is you are targeting which means reaching out to them is easy. Although you are not in their age group, you understand exactly what it is they do. However, it is a very specific market segment which might not allow you to fully maximize on profits.
